Advising
The College of Science offers personalized advising for undergraduates who are considering or who have declared a major in any of the science disciplines. Advisors can help you define your major, plan your total course of study, arrange a workable schedule for each semester, make sure you are meeting graduation requirements, guide you in graduate or professional school decision and application, consult about career opportunities, and more.
Every student in the College of Science is assigned an academic advisor. Since the advising in our college is decentralized, much of the advising is done by faculty members and professional advisors in individual departments. If a student cannot find his or her advisor or has additional advising questions that the advisor cannot answer, the first step is to contact the Chief Advisor in that particular department. A list of departmental advisors and chief advisors may be found here: http://www.science.oregonstate.edu/node/123
If the student has further questions, he/she may contact the Head Advisor in the College of Science Dean’s Office in Kidder 128, 541-737-4811.
Advisors are restricted by Federal law (FERPA) from releasing any information about a student’s class schedule, grades, transcripts, advising checklist, or other specific information to anyone without written permission from that student. A Consent for Student Release of Information form may be obtained from the Head Advising Office in Kidder 128 and must be signed in person by the student in order to release designated information to other parties. Advisors may give out general information such as what resources are available at OSU, what classes and majors are offered, and what general strategies are appropriate to follow in certain situations. Other useful resources include:
Office of the Registrar...........541-737-4331
Dean of Students..................541-737-8748
